How do you get to and from the airports?

In Bahrain, public buses leave from zone 4A, outside exit 4 on the Arrivals level. Route A2 is the fastest bus from the airport to Manama; route A1 also runs via Manama Bus Terminal. Taxis are metered and wait around the clock at the inner curb of the Arrivals level, and Careem and Uber pick-ups are at the Arrivals curbside next to Gate 1.[6],[7]

In Doha, Hamad International Airport has its own Doha Metro station, called HIA, on the Red Line.[8],[9]

Why were there no direct Bahrain–Doha flights from 2017 to 2023?

In June 2017 Bahrain joined Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt in a diplomatic blockade of Qatar, and flights between the two countries stopped. Gulf Air's last flights on the route left on 5 June 2017: GF530 from Bahrain at 20:55 and GF531 from Doha at 22:40.[1],[10]

Direct flights resumed on 25 May 2023, ending a nearly six-year absence. Qatar Airways restarted with one daily flight and announced a second and third daily service from 15 June 2023; Gulf Air resumed its Doha flights the same day.[1],[11]

The route was interrupted again in 2026. Qatar closed its airspace on 28 February 2026, and Gulf Air suspended all inbound, outbound and transit flights while regional airspace stayed closed. Qatar Airways and Gulf Air then announced that Bahrain–Doha flights would resume from 1 May 2026.[2],[3],[12],[13]

There is still no direct road between Bahrain and Qatar. A 40 km causeway between the two countries, known as the Friendship Bridge, is at the planning stage: a contract for its feasibility studies was reported in January 2026.[14]
